Shot cleaning and abrasive cleaning devices can be used to clean some parts of boilers using energy sources producing important slagging. This method of cleaning is very efficient but must be installed with utmost care to limit the possible negative long term consequences on the boiler parts.
By placing special protections on the superheater tubes in the vicinity of the impacts one can avoid these negative consequences.
